As we said in the article about the beta version, the default empty profile photo will show up if a profile photo is not available or is hidden due to privacy settings and it is tinted by using the same color as the contact name. Thanks to this feature, WhatsApp helps group members recognize other participants that have the same name. ![]() In the past few hours, the company has released the WhatsApp for iOS 23.6. As you can see in this screenshot, you need to open a group to see if this feature is enabled for your account: in case it is enabled, you can see profile icons next to chat bubbles. Some weeks ago, WhatsApp announced new features for group chats through a new blog post on their official website and they highlighted that these features would have been released over the coming weeks. Some users may already be able to use this feature after installing the previous 22.23.77 build from the App Store but this feature is also widely rolling out today.
